Update on road link between Kalpa and Kaza (April 18, 2006)

For the past three years the road between Kalpa and Kaza was not open for traffic due to landslide at Malling Nalla. Now a new road has been constructed bypassing the Malling Nalla from Nako to Chango a stretch of 11 km. Kalpa to Kaza is now connected by direct road.

Important information about type of vehicle for the journey

A sturdy SUV vehicle in good condition is suggested for the trip as the entire journey is on hilly tracks with steep climbs. Vehicles like Qualis, Tata Sumo, Bolero, Scorpio are ideal for the trip. These vehicles have good ground clearance which is essential for the journey. Almost all the journey is on mettaled track with only a few portion of dirt tracks. Cars are good till Kalpa and the journey can be made in cars with better ground clearance. Please ensure the tyres are in good condition and should not be tubeless as repairing of tubeless tyres is not available in this region.

If traveling further north of Kalpa to Puh and Nako there are many streams on way. A vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended or the vehicle may get stuck. Carrying fuel along is essential as the last fuel station is at Powari near Kalpa. Please ensure to carry at least 30 liters of fuel for the return journey.

Bon Voyage!
